Near the Discovery Islands in British Columbia, the tide creates a current so strong that boats need to be under power just to remain in the same place. This current carries hake (which live at depths of hundreds of feet) to the surface, and since the fish can't survive at such shallow depths they are picked up and carried off by bald eagles.
The abundance of incapacitated hake during these changes in tide (which occur for approximately 90 minutes once or twice a day) can sustain thousands of bald eagles and create a feeding frenzy while it's taking place. It's a remarkable sight.
Thanks to my friend, David, who suggested I join him on the trip. It was an amazing experience.

Bald eagles would rather steal a fish than catch a fish, so attacks take place frequently
