I've wanted to go to Namibia ever since I saw photos of Deadvlei. And as amazing as the photos were, the place looked even more other worldly in person. The trip began in Windhoek and from there we travelled to Sossusvlei, home of the tallest sand dunes in the world. From there we went to Swakopmund, Damaraland, Etosha, and Okonjima. The trip was a nice mix of landscape and wildlife.

The vastness of the Namibian landscape is breathtaking. The land and sky seem to go on forever. Also, the clouds are unlike any I've ever seen, with the edges brightly lit by the Sun. The sky often looked artificial given the number and definition of the clouds.

The trees of Deadvlei
The sand dunes in Sossusvlei are so substantial, even some portions of them have names. This is the Devils Pitchfork--part of Dune 45

The Skeleton Coast, the only place in the world where the desert meets the ocean
This pelican took a crap on my camera bag. If I see him again it'll be payback time
The Namib Web-Footed Gecko is translucent, can drink through its eyes (by absorbing moisture), and has several other wild characteristics
The Peringuey's Sidewinder Adder is about as good at camouflage as any creature
The Namaqua Chameleon can look in a different direction with each eye (and presumably see what each is looking at)
